Orlando City have signed two former Vancouver Whitecaps players in as many days.
On Tuesday, the Lions announced that forward Corey Hertzog would join the team as only the second striker under contract along with Dennis Chin. Then today, the club announced that defender Brad Rusin would be joining the club as well.
These two signings add significant MLS experience to this years edition of the team and will certainly have a good chance to make the jump to that league with Orlando City in 2015.
Regarding the 6’0″ Hertzog, head coach Adrian Heath stated, “We were in need of another striker, as we only have Chinny (Dennis Chin) at this moment in time, and Corey is somebody we know all about. He scored a hat-trick against us in 2012 and everyone we spoke to in Vancouver were really complimentary of not only his attitude, but they also think that he has the potential of becoming an MLS player so we’re looking forward to working with him this year .”
Rusin also received praise from Heath, “We’re excited to have Brad in, and we’re building a bit more strength in the squad. We think that he is going to be a big addition for us and we certainly know that he can play at this level, but we’re also looking at next year as well.” The 6’4″ defender is only the third at that position under contract for the 2014 season.
Both players are under contract for 2014 only.
